This is Alex. Alex works in woodland creation, having previously worked as a tree officer and as an environmental scientist.
Alex started New Woodlands in December 2018, sitting on the grass beneath a very impressive Giant sequoia. Since then he has been dedicated to gaining experience and qualifications in arboriculture and woodland management, supported by Sam, Tom and George. His top priority is securing New Woodlands' first piece of suitable land.
This is Sam. Sam is a forest school and primary school teacher, with a background in charity marketing and fundraising, as well as legal studies. She loves animals, woodlands and being outside.
In the beginning, Sam helped to make New Woodlands a reality by breaking down a seemingly huge task into achievable steps, and she continues to do that today. She's always thinking about the best way to share our story, celebrate our progress and grow our members.
This is Tom, our woodland management Trustee. Tom has worked in tree surgery and landscape gardening for nearly a decade. He advises on everything from selecting suitable native species and woodland planning and management to seed germination, which helps us source and select the best trees and seeds as cost-effectively as possible.
He has been instrumental in collecting and planting hundreds of local, native tree seeds so far and he rarely brags about it.
This is George. George is an IT Consultant and business owner, and was instrumental in getting New Woodlands set up in our online space. He helps and advises on all the technical work needed to run a charity.
George is happiest outdoors - hiking, swimming, climbing trees and generally getting up to mischief. George has lived, worked and adventured all over the world and is passionately dedicated to preserving its natural wonders for future generations.
The Tree Planters' trustees have agreed to change the charity's name to New Woodlands.
We believe this name more clearly communicates our overall goal than The Tree Planters does, as planting trees is only one small part of creating new permanently protected woodlands.
